NPQ Funding Information 2023/2024

Targeted support funding changes

The DfE has updated the Targeted Support and Delivery Fund offer from the next academic year to encourage and support leaders and teachers working in small state-funded settings to participate in NPQs.

For each teacher or leader a state-funded school or state-funded 16-19 organisation employs, who takes an NPQ in 2023/24 academic year, will receive a grant payment of:

  • £200 for state-funded primary schools regardless of size
  • £800 for state-funded primary schools with one to 150 pupils (£600 in addition to the £200 grant payment)
  • £200 for state-funded secondary schools and state-funded 16-19 educational settings with one to 600 pupils.

For courses starting in the 2023/24 academic year, the payment will be made in summer 2024, the same academic year the participant is recruited to the course.

Information on the Targeted Support Fund for 2023/24 academic year is available on GOV.UK as well as an updated list of eligible 16-19 organisations.

Continued NPQ Scholarship Funding Confirmed

“As part of the government’s long-term education recovery plan, £184 million of new funding for NPQs was announced on 2 June 2021 to be spent over the course of this parliament.
Teachers and leaders employed in state funded schools and state funded organisations that offer 16-19 places in England will be able to access a fully funded NPQ from Autumn 2021, to support teachers and pupils following the disruption to learning faced as a result of COVID-19.
Access to funding remains conditional on successful validation of participants’ registration information against Teaching Regulation Agency records, so you must ensure that the information supplied to your NPQ provider matches your teacher record. You can check and update your record via the Teaching Regulation Agency’ Teacher Self-Service Portal.” – Department for Education, 12th October 2021.

If you are not eligible for scholarship funding, you can still undertake an NPQ.

  • NPQ Leading SEND – for teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading SEND across a school, year group, key stage or phase.
